16th Trip The Gatehouse, Market Bosworth, Leics. CC CL 20th – 22nd August 2008
Stayed Wednesday to Friday
and met a friend from a caravan forum on the Wednesday evening. We were going to go back to
Bramcote Mains but decided last minute to try this place on
said friend's recommendation. Tried ringing the site all Tuesday to check they would have a pitch but never got any answer. Tried their fax number too, also no answer!
So we decided to take pot luck and turn up, knowing we could always go to Bramcote instead if it was full. It wasn't at all full so off I went in search of the owner. Found him in his cottage at the back of the Tea Rooms and explained that I'd tried to ring him all day and he apologised saying that he had diverted his calls to another phone because he had been working there and forgot to change the divert! He said there wasn't a problem anyway and that we could have pitch 12.
This is supposedly a Caravan Club Certificated Location, a small 5 'van
site. A friend said the CL was down the bottom other side of the trees. I went down there and there was a sign saying "No vehicles beyond this point" so no, that's not a CL. The one EHU I could see was the last remaining hook up for pitch 25 (yes, they have 25 pitches) Also, the usual Caravan Club sign at the entrance to the site says "Caravan Club Certificated Location" so it really does look like it's a 25 van CL.
Anyway, it's a nice enough place and good value at a tenner a night with hook up. We had a lot of rain so we didn't explore much. Besides, it was mainly just another break with a visit to my mum again. Not as close as Bramcote but a nice change nevertheless. The only annoying bit was the grass cuttings all over the field which gets into the caravan. We'll certainly use them again but we really do prefer smaller sites.
