17th Trip
Rockley Park, Poole, Dorset. Haven Holiday Park 1st – 8th September 2008
Rockley Park is a
Haven Holidays campsite in Poole, Dorset. Not
everyone's cup of tea since it is a massive commercial holiday site and not normally something we would book for going away in the caravan but I came across it quite by chance when looking for something else a few months ago. It was the price than made us decide to book it, £58 for 7 nights and a fully serviced pitch too! (For those who don't know, fully serviced means piped water, electricity, own drainage and TV aerial all on your own hard-standing pitch) That equates to just £8.26 per night and also includes passes to the Haven entertainments which is free club nights, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and the children's play area. Plenty to do for all the family.
We didn't use the facilities though, we didn't book it for that reason. We did pop down the club one night but the act on stage that night would have made Simon Cowell cringe with embarrassment! We stayed for one (expensive!) drink then decided to go back to the caravan and watch X-Factor we recorded on Sky+
The site was clean and tidy and the pitches were well spaced which surprised us. The statics were closer together than tourers! The toilet and shower block was immaculately clean and the Elsan point in the side of this block was the poshest I've seen so far! Like a tiled loo! We paid a £10 refundable deposit for the key for the disabled shower/toilet so
my wife and I could have a shower but the water was only lukewarm! The on-site shop had everything you need too.
We had a nice time there anyway, popping into Poole and Bournemouth, the Winter Gardens, Bournemouth beach and pier as well as visiting a friend of
my wife in Westborne. There's so much to see and do in and around the area but time went by so fast, we didn't get a chance to do as much as I had hoped. Oh, and guess what pitch number we had? Yep! Number 69!!
Would we go back? Yes, if it was cheap again but we really do much prefer smaller 5 van sites. We hope to go back next year but this time to Bournemouth (or closer to) and on a smaller site.
