30th Trip
Cardyke House, Lincs. CC CL
4th – 10th July 2009
Cardyke House is a Caravan
Club 5 Van site in Swaton, Lincolnshire, about 15 miles East of
Grantham. Set at the bottom of a quiet country lane, surrounded by
trees and farmland, the site has a full allocation of five parking
areas, all with electricity and water connections. Actually called
Cardyke Farm, it is a very rustic working farm with Angora goats, pigs
and chickens next to the site. Their website -
http://www.cardykehouse.co.uk - makes this site look a lot better
than it actually is. It appears it's become rather run-down to
what it used to be. A couple pitched next to us said they've been
coming to this site for the past 10 years and the site used to be like a
bowling green. This can indeed be seen in the photos on their
website. Alas, long grass and nettles now dominate the area.
We have mixed feelings about this site. We did
enjoy the break and enjoyed watching the goats, especially a couple of the
baby goats who managed to somehow escape their enclosure on a daily basis
but the site on the whole looked unkempt and run down. The chemical
disposal point was a cobweb strewn foul smelling rusty manhole cover in the
ground some 50 feet away from the pitches and the rinse water some 15 feet
away, a hosepipe connected to a boxed in tap which looked like it hadn't
been used in ages since it was also covered in cobwebs and insects inside
the box around the tap.
We felt £10 per night was rather expensive given its
poor condition and unless this site was returned to its former glory as
portrayed on their website (and the couple pitched next to us) this is one site that we won't be returning to
again.
