31st Trip
Barn Farm, Sedgebrook, Grantham, Lincs CC CL 20th – 23th July 2009

I don't know why we never spotted this one before because it's so much closer to my wife's parents than Little Acres or the Royal Oak Public House which we've used before when visiting the in-laws.  At £10 per night, it's slightly dearer than the others but only slightly.  However, the fuel saved more than makes up for that.  It might have been that when we first looked around that area, Barn Farm didn't have EHU but apparently, they've had EHU since the end of last year!

This is very easy to get to, signposted Sedgebrook/Allington just off the A52 near Grantham.  The approach road is a little bumpy but nothing to complain about.  The adjoining fields had horses in them which made a nice change from cows and sheep usually seen on other farms.  The site is reasonably level although a bit bumpy in places, quiet, fully enclosed and VERY spacious.  Sadly, they are only open March to October.  (According to the Caravan Club website anyway. Must remember to check if this is the case next time we go.)  The owner came out to greet us on arrival, told us to pitch anywhere we wanted and also popped out to say goodbye and shook hands as we left.  He also popped over to check we were OK when we were outside during our stay and had a chat. Very friendly chap.  Their bungalow was just at the front of the pitches.

If there was a downside, it would be that the Elsan point was a "bit of a hike" just outside the gates and halfway down the side of the stables but I've seen worse. The Elsan point was one of the nicer ones though. The waste also has to be emptied in the hedges near here.  I therefore used the wastemaster to carry the toilet cassette too.

Would we go again?  Most definitely!

32nd Trip
Barn Farm, Sedgebrook, Grantham, Lincs CC CL 11th – 14th August 2009

Well, we definitely did go back again, and sooner than we thought, too!  As mentioned above, it's ideally closely located to my wife's parents and they asked for help with some decorating since they are getting on in years now.  Although we didn't spend a great deal of time at the site this time, we still enjoyed our stay nonetheless and using it as a base close to my wife's parents was a boon.

As before, the owners were very welcoming and friendly.  We've already booked to return next week as my wife's parents are expecting delivery and fitting of a new carpet to complete their newly decorated lounge and require help in removing the old carpet and moving the furniture ready for the new one.  Hey, any excuse for yet another trip away! We did ask about their opening dates and they said they would see how the field fared through the winter months, weather permitting.  They suggested ringing beforehand to check conditions but added that they could provide a "makeshift hardstanding" near the entrance to the main site with EHU if conditions were bad.

We pitched in a different part of the site this time, a roomier corner to ourselves but it meant using our 25 metre AND 6 metre EHU cables joined together to reach the EHU bollard.  No problem.

Already looking forward to going back next week!

BACK

33rd Trip
Barn Farm, Sedgebrook, Grantham, Lincs CC CL 19th – 24th August 2009

And back again!  The in-laws are now sorted out with their new carpet and a new outside garden tap too.  We booked 5 days this time because we knew two of them would be spent at the in-laws so we enjoyed a few days relaxing in the 'van. We did pop to Grantham for a shopping trip for new trainers and jeans and our first ever Calor Lite from Grantham Caravans amongst other things.

Once again, the owners were very welcoming and friendly.  We choose yet another location to pitch, this time nearer the entrance gate which was closer to the Elsan and hedgerows for waste dumping.  The EHU was closer to the caravan so we only had to use the 11 metre cable.  Weather was fantastic.  HOT in fact!  This was the first time I tried out the new telescopic waterhog filling pipe too.

Time to give this one a break now and venture somewhere new.  But we WILL use them again.

BACK

37th Trip
Barn Farm, Sedgebrook, Grantham, Lincs CC CL 1st – 5th October 2009

And back yet again!  This time as a wee break for my wifes birthday as well as another visit to the in-laws.  As always, the owners Terry and Angela and their dog Poppy were as welcoming and friendly as ever.  We pitched in the same spot as last time and the site was fully booked up this weekend.  Terry mentioned they had someone book their site recently as a result of reading about it on my website and hadn't realised I had given them a glowing report.  The campers told him how to find my website and so he looked it up.  He thanked me for the good report and for the fact that it led to new custom for them.

Other than that, nothing new to report.  No photos this time either.  It was once again a very nice break with a yummy Chinese Takeaway from our favourite place in nearby Grantham, The Mandarin.  We also went back to Downtown Superstore in Grantham for a wander round their garden centre and ended up buying a few Xmas presents, amongst other things.

Until next time.....
